Among the variety of drugs and forms of their release, tablets are very popular. For the treatment to be beneficial, you need to know how to properly give the pill to the kitten.

General characteristics of the disease

If a pet goes outside, then you can get infected by drinking water from puddles, eating food from the ground, and contact with sick cats. A kitten that does not enter the street may also develop worms.

  1. The larvae of helminths can be on the soles of shoes, a rug near the front door. They fall on the paws and hair of the animal. By licking itself, the cat becomes infected.
  2. A small kitten can become infected with worms from its mother during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  3. Fleas can be a source of infection.
  4. Eating raw meat and fish can also lead to worms.

The characteristic signs of the appearance of helminths in the body of a pet are:

  • lack of appetite;
  • violation of the stool;
  • vomiting;
  • the kitten is not gaining weight;
  • lethargy, apathy;
  • there may be itching, coughing;
  • stop in development;
  • bloated stomach.

If such symptoms appear, it is better to show the animal to the veterinarian. Roundworms and tapeworms are most common in kittens.

Roundworms are nematodes and range in size from 2 mm to 3-4 cm. They choose the small intestine as their habitat and feed on blood. The young individual loses a lot of nutrients, anemia develops. Infection occurs through raw meat, outdoor footwear, and contact with contaminated soil or sand.

They are localized in the small intestine and lead to the fact that the kitten does not gain weight, stops in physical development, and does not eat well. Fleas and lice are the source of the disease.

Classification of medicinal products

In most cases, tablets are able to quickly cope with the invasion of parasites. They paralyze their neuromuscular system, disrupt metabolic processes and stop glucose absorption. Worms easily come out with feces.

A medicine based on them can be given only when the pet reaches three weeks of age. If the helminthic invasion is strong, after three weeks, a second course of taking the pills should be repeated.

Before treating a cat, you need to identify what type of worms is present in the body. Consider a list of pills for worms for kittens allowed from 21 days of age.

  1. Azinox. An anthelmintic designed to combat tapeworms at all stages of their development. The drug leads to paralysis and death of the parasite. The tablet should be crushed and diluted in 10 ml of water. Prescribe 1 ml per 1 kg of body weight.
  2. Pirantel. An anthelmintic drug causes parasite paralysis. The tablet must be crumbled and given an hour after eating. ¼ pills are enough for kittens. It is not recommended to give this medication for prophylactic purposes, since it is active only against roundworms.
  3. Dirofen. Anthelmintic agent, which, when the dosage is observed, has a minimal toxic effect on the cat's body. Separately, there are tablets for the treatment of small kittens. The dosage is equal to 1 tablet per 1 kg of body weight.
  1. Prazitel. An antihelminthic drug is given to the kitten in the morning before feeding. It leads to paralysis of parasites, and they, together with feces, release the body. The dosage is ¼ tablet per 1 kg of animal body weight.
  2. Milbemax. The anthelmintic drug is given once during the morning feeding. By the end of the day, the parasites should be expelled. For small kittens it is enough to give ½ capsule.
  3. Caniverm. Tablets for worms for kittens weighing from 500 g to 2 kg are produced in a dosage of 0.175 g. Give once in the morning, can be mixed with food (but not with dairy products).
  4. Prazicide. The drug is known for its effectiveness and safety. Leads to muscle paralysis and death of parasites. If necessary, repeat the course after 10 days. Kittens weighing less than 1 kg are given ¼ tablets in the morning.
  5. Milprazon. For kittens less than 2 kg, tablets are available with a special dosage. The drug leads to paralysis and death of parasites. Animals up to 1 kg are given ½ tablet.

Consider drugs approved for use from two to three months of life.

  1. Febtal. An anthelmintic drug leads to disruption of energy metabolism within the helminths. Give once, in the morning, at a dosage of ¼ tablets (1 tablet per 3 kg).
  2. Caniquantel. The drug paralyzes the nervous and muscular system of parasites and leads to their death. Can be mixed with feed or diluted with water.
  3. Drontal. With the help of this anthelmintic drug, the prevention and treatment of helminthiases in animals is carried out. Can be given only after the kitten gains at least 500 g of weight. The dosage is ¼ 500 g tablet.
  4. Alben. The medicine leads to disruption of metabolic processes in the body of helminths and disrupts the absorption of glucose. For kittens less than 1 kg, ¼ tablet is enough, which is crushed and diluted in 10 ml of water.
  5. Azipirine. The medicine acts on a large number of helminths. Fights against the appearance of several types of parasites in the animal's body. Leads to destruction of the outer shell and paralysis. The dosage is ½ tablet per 2 kg. The tablet should be crushed and dissolved in 5 ml of water.

4 hours after taking the anthelmintic drug, enterosorbents should be given - Polysorb, Enterosgel, activated carbon.

Recommendations for use

The required dosage of the tablet should be given in the morning, before meals. A tablet for kittens from worms can be crushed and mixed with food (for example, milk) or diluted with water and drawn into a syringe without a needle, then squeeze the medicine onto the root of the tongue.

The kitten is put on its knees and its jaw is unclenched, a tablet dissolved in water is poured in. Then the mouth needs to be closed and squeezed a little, stroking the throat so that the swallowing reflex works.

If the medication is given earlier than three weeks of age or if the dosage is exceeded, it can be fatal. You will not be able to get rid of the symptoms of an overdose on your own. Only in a hospital setting, where the pet will be given droppers, can the intoxication be removed.

Before giving medicine for worms, you need to make sure that there are no fleas. If they are found, then a procedure is carried out to remove them. Then, making sure that the animal is not sick with anything, you can give an anthelmintic drug (4 days after removing the fleas). After these procedures, routine vaccinations are allowed.

When buying pills for your pet, you need to consider his age and weight. On the package there is an indication - for adult cats or kittens. If you give a kitten a medicine intended for an adult, overdose symptoms occur.

You can not purchase anthelmintic drugs intended for humans. In order not to buy a fake, you need to purchase the medicine in specialized pharmacies.

Having picked up the medicine, it is not enough just to give it to the kitten - you must follow a number of rules that will help avoid re-infection:

  • the habitat of the kitten must be treated for fleas;
  • a domestic kitten should not be allowed outside;
  • you must not leave outdoor shoes in a place visible and accessible to the animal;
  • the tray must be washed with disinfectants and poured over with boiling water;
  • street sand cannot be used as a tray filler;
  • do not feed the kitten raw meat or fish.

Pets require care and attention, so you need to regularly visit a veterinarian, get preventive vaccinations, observe hygiene and nutritional standards. This way you can keep the health of not only the pet, but all family members.
