Trichomoniasis venereal disease during pregnancy negatively affects the development of the fetus. The causative agent of a sexually transmitted disease is the vaginal bacterium Trichomonas.

  • 1 The reasons for the development of the disease
  • 2 Effect on the fetus
  • 3 Manifestations of the disease
  • 4 Treatment measures

The reasons for the development of the disease

The most important reason for the development of trichomoniasis is the ingress of bacteria into the genitals during unprotected sexual contact with a sick person. The risk of infection increases with a strong decrease in immunity. The incubation period can last from 2-3 days to 2 months.

Promiscuous, casual sex without a condom increases the chance of contracting any sexually transmitted infection.

Trichomonas is a single-celled protozoan that affects the mucous surface of the vagina and urethra. Moisture is a favorable environment for its development. On bathroom walls, toilet rims and other similar places, the bacteria can survive for up to 5 hours. Dies at temperatures above 40 degrees, in direct sunlight, under the influence of antiseptic agents.

Men very often are not even aware of the carrier of such a bacterium, so the infection is transmitted to a woman. During pregnancy, a decrease in immunity occurs, and the disease begins to gain momentum.

If the disease is detected before pregnancy, then you must first get rid of it, and only then plan for conception.

Influence on the fetus

If trichomoniasis is detected during pregnancy, then the risk of having a child with pathologies, not carrying a fetus and giving birth to a child before time increases. Bacteria in the process of their life form an aggressive environment that adversely affects the fetal bladder. As a result, premature rupture of amniotic fluid may occur. Actively multiplying, Trichomonas leads to infection of the amniotic fluid. As a result, the fetus dies.

Trichomonas do not penetrate the fetus through the placenta, but are capable of carrying other dangerous infections. Trichomonas can absorb chlamydia, gonococcus and other pathogenic microbes into their cavity, while they do not die. Inside the Trichomonas, other bacteria are protected from antibiotics and easily enter the uterus.

There are times when the bacteria leads to fetal malnutrition. The size and body weight of the fetus does not meet the standards.

Infection of a child can occur during passage through the birth canal. Most often, girls are infected. This is due to the anatomical structure: bacteria easily penetrate into other organs of the urinary system through the short urethra.

Is it possible to get pregnant with trichomoniasis? With this disease, it is possible to become pregnant, but not desirable. It is recommended to first cure the disease, so as not to face various kinds of problems while carrying a child. If the treatment is not started or not completely completed, then changes occur in the woman's genital area:

  1. The microflora of the vagina changes, becomes alkaline, which adversely affects the sperm. They become less active and die quickly.
  2. Inflammatory processes often move to the internal genital organs. The uterus suffers and the attachment of the zygote becomes difficult.
  3. Inflammation also affects the fallopian tubes, adhesions occur. The risk of ectopic pregnancy increases.

If the disease is completely cured, then it will not be difficult to get pregnant. There will be no risk in this case for the woman and the fetus.

Disease manifestations

Often trichomoniasis during pregnancy occurs simultaneously with other pathological processes, for example, inflammation of the appendages, endometriosis. Acute symptoms rarely appear, the disease immediately turns into a chronic, sluggish form.

The acute form of the course of the disease can be provoked by hormonal changes in the body, decreased immunity, concomitant diseases, and a violation of the vaginal microflora.

The disease can occur with the appearance of the following symptoms in pregnant women:

  • the first signs are discomfort in the genital area, which manifests itself in the form of itching, tingling or burning;
  • feeling of heaviness or aching pain in the lower abdomen;
  • mucopurulent discharge from the vagina, which is accompanied by an unpleasant odor;
  • sexual intercourse may be accompanied by pain;
  • urination becomes frequent and painful;
  • the external genitals become inflamed, redness and local hyperthermia are observed;
  • often the infection is accompanied by diarrhea.

On examination, a smear is taken for further research, the culture method or the polymerase chain reaction method helps to establish the diagnosis.

Healing activities

If trichomoniasis is diagnosed in pregnant women, an urgent need to start treatment. Both partners must undergo a therapy course.

Trichomoniasis is successfully treated with antibiotics, but most of them have contraindications for use in the first trimester. Therefore, it is advisable to use medicines in the form of vaginal suppositories or douching:

  1. Ginesol. Suppositories are recommended to be inserted as deep as possible into the vagina before going to bed for 10-14 days. The drug is approved for use only in the first trimester of pregnancy.
  2. Betadine. An antiseptic preparation based on iodine fights a large number of pathogens. It is safe to use only in the first trimester. Before going to bed, you need to insert one suppository into the vagina. The course of treatment lasts 7 days.
  3. Clotrimazole. Vaginal tablets are inserted into the vagina at night using an applicator. One 100 mg tablet is administered throughout the week.
  4. Terzhinan. Suppositories are able to relieve inflammation, fight fungi with the simplest microorganisms, and have an antiprotozoal effect. It can be used at any stage of pregnancy, since the active ingredients are not absorbed into the bloodstream. Suppositories are administered only in the evening, preferably before bedtime, for a week.

An allergic reaction is possible while using candles. Itching and redness intensify, a rash joins.

In the case when such treatment of trichomoniasis during pregnancy does not bring results, then at the later stages of pregnancy, medications are prescribed stronger:

  1. Metronidazole. The drug is a synthetic antibiotic, in the first three months of pregnancy it is contraindicated for use. Assign one tablet three times a day after meals. You can use the medicine in the form of suppositories.
  2. Tinidazole. It is an antiprotozoal drug that has antimicrobial effects. Contraindicated in the first trimester. The standard dosage is 1.5 g once a day. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disease and can range from 3 to 7 days.
  3. Naxojin. The antiprotozoal is prescribed at a dosage of 250 mg twice a day for a week. During pregnancy, use only under strict medical supervision.
  4. Atrican. Capsules 250 mg are drunk twice a day or 100 mg vaginally administered 1-2 times a day.

Decoctions and infusions from plants such as celandine, chamomile, calendula, bird cherry will help relieve inflammation, stop the spread of microbes, and reduce unpleasant manifestations of the disease

The treatment can take up to three months. You can not self-medicate, you must strictly follow all the prescriptions of the attending physician.
