Composition and form of release

The strong antiparasitic effect is due to the composition of the drug: these are the active substances of milbemycin oxime and praziquantel with auxiliary components. Both substances easily penetrate the parasite at the cellular level, causing paralysis. The medicine for worms actively affects both adults and non-hatched larvae.

Milbemax is available in the form of elongated tablets with a cross-cut for individuals of different ages: there are tablets for kittens and adult cats.

The drug is in the form of pink tablets with the imprints "BC" and "NA", intended for young cats and kittens. Each tablet contains 4 mg of milbemycin oxime and 10 mg of praziquantel.

In the preparation, as an additional component without a therapeutic effect, one can name a flavoring additive that imitates the aroma of beef. However, despite the alluring scent, pets do not often agree to swallow the medicine voluntarily. The carton contains a blister with two tablets.

Milbemax for cats is designed for a single dose. The remedy is offered during the morning feeding by mixing the tablet with the food. If the animal ignores this method of treatment, then you should know how to properly give the pill to the cat, because you will need to treat your pet with medicine one way or another.

To calculate the therapeutic dose of the drug, a calculation is made: per 1 kg of body weight, 2 mg of milbemycin oxime and 5 mg of praziquantel are required.

An approximate calculation of the required amount of active substances begins with an animal weight of 0.5-1 kg. The blister contains 2 tablets, since the maximum dose is designed for cats from 8-12 kg.

Dosage of milbemax according to the cat's weight:

Cat weight 0.5 - 1 kg 0.5 tablets (pink) - 1 - 2 kg 1 tablet (pink) - 2 - 4 kg - 0.5 tablets (red) 4 - 8 kg - 1 tablet (red) 8 - 12 kg - 1.5 tablets (red)

You should not exceed the norm in the hope of a special effect - this can damage your cat's health.

Indications for treatment by means

The medicine helps fight helminthic invasions. It relieves animals of larvae and adult parasites. The medicine is effective for infection with the following types of helminths:

  • Cestodes. Tapeworms, which parasitize the intestines of cats, infect the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum body length of these parasites is 150 cm. When infected, the pet may experience occasional vomiting, stool disturbance, loss of appetite, and in severe cases, even intestinal obstruction.
  • Nematodes. Round helminths that affect the digestive system, often in the liver. Pets suffering from nematodosis have loose stools, vomiting of blood, systematic coughing, and refusal to eat.
  • Trematodes. Fluke flatworms parasitizing vertebrates. They can be found in the lungs, liver, pancreas, gall bladder. The reproduction of these helminths causes a fever in a cat, a debilitating cough, and a violation of stool.

The indication for the use of the drug is the prevention of helminthic invasion and infection with one or more types of helminths. The following symptoms may indicate an animal's disease:

  • itching in the anus;
  • cough;
  • loss of interest in food;
  • weight loss;
  • constipation and diarrhea;
  • an increase in the volume of the abdominal cavity;
  • depressed state;
  • indigestion;
  • blood in the stool;
  • vomiting;
  • convulsions;
  • miscarriage or premature birth in pregnant cats;
  • developmental delay in newborns.

How to give Milbemax to a pet?

According to the instructions, before using the drug, the cat does not need to be limited in food. Milbemax can be given with any meal. Cats tend to refuse to take the pills, even if they smell like meat, so the medicine is mixed into the food.

If the pet does not show interest in food, then you will have to force feed the anthelmintic. For this, the pet needs to be seated on your lap. Since cats tend to be aggressive when their owners try to feed them medication, you need to turn the animal with its back to you. This position will reduce the likelihood of injury to the owner if the pet resists.

With one hand, you need to gently unclench the cat's cheekbones, with the other, quickly put the pill as close to the root of the tongue as possible and close the mouth. If all actions are performed correctly, the cat will immediately swallow the medicine. In order for the swallowing reflex to work, it is recommended to stroke the animal from the head to the neck. After the cat has calmed down, you need to make sure that she has swallowed the drug and release it.

Active substances act from the moment they enter the bloodstream. The maximum concentration is reached within 2 hours. Then the components of the drug are gradually removed from the body.

For the treatment of animals from helminthic invasions, the drug is used as directed by a doctor. In order to prevent deworming, it is recommended to carry out 1 time in 3 months. In addition, it is necessary to give tablets before vaccination and viscosity.

For adult cats and cats

The dose of the drug is calculated individually for each pet, taking into account its weight. Milbemax for adult cats is available in red tablets, each tablet contains 16 mg of milbemycin oxime and 40 mg of praziquantel. The recommended norm for cats from 2 to 4 kg is 0.5 tablets. For heavier cats, weighing between 4 and 8 kg, one tablet is sufficient. The most massive pets weighing more than 8 kg are given 1.5 tablets.

If necessary, veterinarians allow the use of the drug when carrying offspring and lactation. Pregnant females are allowed to give the drug only under the supervision of a specialist from the seventh week of pregnancy. If the cat is in the lactation period, then deworming is carried out 3 weeks after birth.

Kittens of different ages

Milbemax for kittens can be used in the treatment of worms only if the babies are already 6 weeks old. Too little kittens should not be given anthelmintic drugs, as there is a high risk of developing allergies and side effects.

The formulation for kittens and young cats is a pink oblong tablet containing 4 mg of milbemycin oxime and 10 mg of praziquantel. The pet dose is also calculated based on body weight. Babies weighing 0.5-1 kg are given half a tablet. Grown up kittens weighing 1-2 kg need to feed a whole tablet.

Milbemax should not be given to dogs with individual intolerance to the active ingredients of the drug, the drug is contraindicated for puppies that are not yet 3 weeks old.

  • the pet is exhausted, weakened;
  • a history of severe chronic diseases of the kidneys, liver, organs of the genitourinary system;
  • there are signs of viral, bacterial pathologies;
  • pregnant females in the early stages;
  • during treatment with Milbemax, you must stop taking other medicines.

Anthelmintic is contraindicated for dogs of some breeds - Bobtail, Sheltie, Collie, Chinese Crested, since these animals have an innate increased susceptibility to lactones.

Many analogs of Milbemax are sold in veterinary pharmacies, the most popular are Drontal, Febtal, Kanikvantel, Cestal, Troncil. The veterinarian will tell you which medicine is best to choose after examining and diagnosing the animal.
