How to take Vermox - after meals or before?

According to the instructions, Vermox is drunk on an empty stomach or after meals, regardless of the meal. Since it is not absorbed in the digestive tract, food does not reduce its effectiveness. Taking the drug before or during a meal will not affect the outcome of the treatment.

It is recommended to drink Vermox after meals, as this reduces the risk of adverse reactions. It is recommended to drink the drug with a small amount of liquid. The regimen depends on the type of pathogen, the presence of concomitant pathology, age.

A tablet containing 100 mg is taken once. Before this, a main meal is recommended, and not a light snack. The drug is washed down with 50-100 ml of water. To prevent relapse, the same dose is taken after 14 and 28 days.

To eliminate echinococcus, large doses of Vermox are used. During the first three days, they drink 5 tablets in the morning and in the evening. From 4 to 6 days, the daily dose is 1500 mg, divided into three doses. Then the dose is increased to 10 tablets at a time.

If necessary, you can drink 15 tablets at a time. Depending on the form of infection, the course lasts from 4 weeks to 24 months. For liver diseases, the scheme is supplemented with hepatoprotectors. It is necessary to control the level of liver enzymes. With echinococcosis, drink Vermox after eating.

Composition of the preparation

The composition of Vermox tablets: the main active ingredient is mebendazole, 0.1 g, the auxiliary substances are sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, talc, lactose monohydrate, sodium saccharinate and corn starch.

Thanks to the synthetic substance mebendazole, which causes impaired glucose utilization, Vermox as a drug fights parasitic diseases caused by helminths. Mebendazole interferes with the vital activity of worms, reducing metabolic processes, slows down the synthesis of ATP. The parasitic worms weaken, stop feeding and die. After 2-4 days, they are excreted along with the feces.

Vermox is produced in the form of a blister - 6 tablets in a contour plate with white cells with a mild specific odor, packing in the form of a cardboard box.

Indications for appointment

Vermox is prescribed for diseases:

  1. Gnatostomiasis is a disease caused by nematode larvae, less often by adult parasites. It is characterized by migratory edema of the skin, sometimes meningitis, damage to the eyes and internal organs.
  2. Capillariasis is a nematode damage to the intestines, manifested by persistent diarrhea, mortality during a capillariosis epidemic reached 30%.
  3. Alveococcosis is a severe, lingering disease caused by a tapeworm larva, characterized by a tumor of the liver, kidneys, and sometimes the brain and lungs.
  4. Echinococcosis is similar in symptoms to alveococcosis, caused by an echinococcus larva.
  5. Trichinosis is a parasitism in the small intestine of adults of Trichinella, characterized by facial edema, eosinophilia, dermal rashes, with complications - destruction of internal organs and neurological diseases.
  6. Ankylostomiasis is a disease caused by hookworms, pale pink helminths ranging in size from 5 to 15 mm. It is difficult, affects the small intestine and causes anemia.
  7. Teniosis is a disease caused by a pork tapeworm from 1.5 to 2 m long, associated with damage to the small intestine.
  8. Ascariasis. The causative agent is ascaris larvae and eggs that develop in the intestines. Through the blood vessels they enter the liver, lungs and heart.
  9. Enterobiasis. According to Rospotrebnadzor, in 2013, 215,000 residents of Russia suffered from pinworms. The disease proceeds without painful symptoms. Parasites live in the appendix or cecum.

  1. Children under 2 years old.
  2. Pregnant women up to 12 months of pregnancy. After 12 months, the drug is prescribed with great care.

Features of admission in adults and children

Vermox tablets are swallowed with water. The dosage depends on the type of parasite causing the disease. Vermox is not absorbed by the intestinal walls.

Substances of Vermox are accumulated undigested in the liver, adipose tissue and parasite larvae. In the liver, the drug is metabolized to a 2-amino derivative.

5-10% of substances are absorbed into the intestines and excreted by the kidneys. 90% is excreted from the body in the form of feces.

  • The course of treatment is repeated in 2-4 weeks.
  • Adults and children over 2 years old are prescribed:
  1. With enterobiasis.
  2. With mixed helminthiasis.
  3. With echinococcosis.
  4. With trichinosis.
  5. With ankylostomiasis, ascariasis, strongyloidiasis and teniasis.

Children 2-10 years old are prescribed the drug for use in minimal dosages and only strictly according to the doctor's prescription.

How to take Vermox to children under 2 years of age in cases of infection? The pediatrician can calculate the dose and the time to take it before or after meals based on the characteristics of age and disease.

The tablet is dissolved in water and given as a suspension. After the course of treatment, you need to take choleretic and sorbents in accordance with age for 10 days.

The child's liver cannot withstand the stress, therefore, on the days of admission, the use of spicy and fried foods should be excluded.

Vermox has the following list of contraindications:

  • intolerance to mebendazole and other additional components that make up the drug;
  • Crohn's disease - chronic damage to the large intestine;
  • ulcerative colitis;
  • impaired liver function, for example, cirrhosis, hepatitis;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • children under two years old.

Before starting treatment, it is important to make sure that the patient has no contraindications to Vermox.

Vermox, like other drugs, has analogues. Let's consider them in more detail.

  • Vormil is an anthelmintic agent containing mebendazole. The drug has practically the same indications, mechanism of action and side effects. But experts believe that Vormil is inferior to Vermox in toxicity. The cost of drugs also differs: Vormil costs almost twice as much.
  • Pirantel is a remedy for worms based on pyrantel pamoate. Perhaps the most innocuous representative of anthelmintic drugs. It is used in pediatrics from 6 months, as well as for indications in pregnant and lactating women.
  • Nemozole is a drug based on albendazole. It is universal against most parasites, but has a large number of side effects, inferior to Vermox in this. Nemozole is contraindicated in children under two years of age.
  • Decaris is a preparation containing levamisole. It does not destroy, but paralyzes the muscle activity of parasites. Not suitable for the treatment of children under three years of age, as well as those with kidney and liver diseases.

All of these drugs are available over the counter at a pharmacy. The choice in favor of this or that remedy depends on the type of parasitic invasion.

Comparison of funds - which is better?

For kids

There are some differences in how to take Vermox to children, depending on what kind of invasion affected the body. Also, the dosage of the drug is calculated depending on the degree of development of the invasion, the age of the child, his weight and other factors.

  • Enterobiasis. At the age of 2 to 5 years, a quarter of the tablet is prescribed once, and the same dosage is repeated two weeks later, and then another two weeks later. At the age of 5 to 10 years, you can give the child half a pill, otherwise the scheme is the same as in the previous case. At the age of over 10 years, a child can be treated like an adult, that is, 1 tablet can be prescribed once, with a repeat of taking two weeks and a month after the first dose
  • Other types of invasions. Duration of the course is 3 days. One tablet is taken daily, preferably in the morning. You need to drink a little water.

The description of the product confirms that it is not a hazardous product. Therefore, it is better if, when an invasion is detected in one of the family members, everyone who lives with him under the same roof will undergo anthelmintic therapy. This is recommended because the invasion is easily transmitted and can be asymptomatic for a long time.

For adults

Below are some tips on how to take Vermox for adults:

  • Enterobiasis. You need to take one tablet with a dosage of 150 mg of the active ingredient once, the entire dose at a time. Repeat the course after 2-4 weeks (at the discretion of the doctor) in order to avoid re-development of the invasion;
  • Ascariasis. In this disease, the drug is taken in a short course for three days, one 150 mg tablet during or after meals in the morning and before meals or during the evening;
  • Teniosis, mixed invasions. The same as in the case of ascariasis;
  • Trichocephalosis. Take 400 mg three times a day for the first three days of treatment, and then from 4 to 10 days of treatment - 5 tablets 3 times a day.

If an adult is prescribed a long course of taking the drug, then the treatment should be carried out strictly under the supervision of a doctor. Control of the liver is important.

For prevention

Prevention of worms with this tool is also quite simple. The dosage for prevention is the same as for treatment. You need to use the drug once. It is better to carry out prevention in the autumn and spring. It should be carried out at least twice a year, but not more often than four.

Prevention is needed by people working in child care facilities, as well as those who interact with stray animals. Outdoor pet owners are also at risk. Children should undergo prophylaxis regularly, since it is in children's groups that such invasions are especially actively spread.

During pregnancy

The drug is contraindicated for pregnant women due to the fact that insufficient research has been carried out on this score. It is known for sure that it is impossible to use the drug in the early stages, since it can negatively affect the laying of the systems and organs of the fetus. At a later date, its effect on the fetus has not been studied, but it is partially absorbed into the bloodstream and penetrates the placenta, which means that a negative effect cannot be ruled out.

In addition, when planning a pregnancy, Vermox may also have some effect on the results. A frequent side effect of taking it is a decrease in hemoglobin and erythrocytes in the blood, anemia may develop. Such changes in the analyzes can cause some postponement of pregnancy until the tests normalize (at the discretion of the specialist).
