Parasitic eggs are more likely to enter the body during the absorption of food, or when a person is drinking poorly purified water. At the first stages, helminths do not appear, but after a while a person develops various unpleasant symptoms.

You can get rid of helminths with the help of antiparasitic drugs that have a wide or narrow spectrum of effects. If the patient develops a secondary infection, additional antimicrobial agents are prescribed.

What to do in such a situation? To get started, we recommend reading this article. This article details the methods of dealing with parasites. We also recommend contacting a specialist. Read the article >>>

How does antibiotic treatment affect parasites?

How do antibiotics and helminths interact? Is it possible to cure worms with such drugs? Or will only special antihelminthics help?

Experts say that it is impossible to fight against helminths with antimicrobial drugs of a wide spectrum of effects, despite the fact that they can cure many infections. They help only those patients who use antiparasitic drugs in parallel. But today, antimicrobial agents of the tetracycline group are proposed, which counteract parasites of any kind.

Do antibiotics kill parasites?

Antibiotic agents with a wide spectrum of action are able to resist almost any infection. Do antibiotics kill worms? Doctors say that broad-spectrum antibiotic agents are not able to remove parasites from the body.

Drugs of this type will only be effective if taken in conjunction with broad-spectrum anthelmintic drugs. If you try to remove parasites only with antibiotics, then you will not achieve a therapeutic effect.

However, some antibiotics belonging to the tetracycline series are able to fully resist parasites. For example, if amoebiasis progresses in a person, then it is advisable to use derivatives of 3-hydroxyquinoline.

Emetin is active against amoebas. This antibiotic has a broad spectrum of action. This medication is not commercially available, as it is very toxic. The cost of Emetina ranges from 500 to 600 rubles.

The medicine is produced in the form of a solution for intramuscular injection. The average daily dosage of Emetin is 0.1 grams. When treating children, it decreases to 0.03-0.04 grams per day. The medication is administered for 2 days. You cannot use the product longer, since Emetin has a toxic effect on the liver.

Under the influence of this remedy, amoebas undergo degenerative changes. In parasites, cytoplasmic reticulation appears. This leads to the death of unicellular microorganisms.

The medication is contraindicated in people with hypersensitivity to its components and in children under 6 months. During pregnancy and lactation, it is strictly forbidden to use this remedy, since Emetin's metabolites can cause irreparable harm to the child's health.

Among the side effects of this antibiotic are:

  1. Multiple inflammation of the peripheral nerve endings.
  2. Nausea.
  3. Vomiting.
  4. Muscle pain.
  5. Tachycardia. Sometimes, when using Emetin, a person's blood pressure rises sharply and heart failure develops.
  6. Tremor of the extremities, accompanied by chills.
  7. Pain in the right hypochondrium. They arise due to the toxic effect of Emetin on the liver.

When is it advisable to use antibiotics

As you know, under the influence of antibiotics, worms will not die. The exception is amoeba and other unicellular parasites. However, in some cases, it is still advisable to use antibiotics for helminthiasis.

Stomatitis and worms are often related concepts. When parasites enter the body, the risk of stomatitis increases many times. If a person progresses this ailment, then it is advisable to resort to the use of antibiotics.

However, drugs of this group must be taken in conjunction with anthelmintic drugs, otherwise it will be impossible to cure stomatitis.

What antibiotic to use for stomatitis caused by helminthiasis? In this case, it is best to use Lincomycin (100-180 rubles). This medication is available in the form of an injection solution and capsules. Lincomycin reduces the activity of gram-positive bacteria and inhibits protein synthesis in the body of parasites.

The medication is administered intramuscularly or intravenously at a dosage of 600 mg. The frequency of use of Lincomycin is 2 times a day. The duration of the course of treatment is 14 days. If necessary, a second course of treatment is carried out after 7-8 weeks.

Lincomycin should not be used if there is an intolerance to the active components of the drug. Also, the antibiotic is not prescribed for children under 12 years old and people suffering from renal or liver failure. Also, Lincomycin should not be used by pregnant women, as it is able to easily overcome the placental barrier.

Lincomycin side effects:

  • On the part of the hematopoietic system - leukopenia and neutropenia.
  • From the digestive tract - pain in the epigastric region, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis.
  • Allergic reactions - Quincke's edema, dermatitis, urticaria, anaphylactic shock.
  • Dizziness.
  • Decrease in blood pressure.
