Release form and composition

The drug has a tablet dosage form. 100 mg of mebendazole (active ingredient) is contained in each tablet.

Additional ingredients:

• 72 mg corn starch;

• 3 mg crospovidone;
• 0.5 mg sodium lauryl sulfate;

Mebendazole is an effective anthelmintic agent with a wide spectrum of action. The substance is most active in the treatment of enterobiasis. It inhibits the utilization of glucose by helminth cells and significantly slows down the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in their body.

The metabolism of the drug occurs in the liver.

About 90% of the taken dose of Gelmedazol is excreted in its original form along with feces.

Pharmacokinetics

Mebendazole is almost not absorbed from the esophagus. The substance binds to plasma proteins by 90%. In the internal organs, it is distributed unevenly, accumulates in the liver, adipose tissue and helminth larvae. Metabolism of mebendazole occurs in the liver. In this case, the 2-amino derivative is formed.

The half-life of a substance lasts from 2.5 to 6 hours. About 90% of the dose taken is excreted in its original form along with feces. The part that has managed to be absorbed (from 5% to 10%) is excreted with the help of the kidneys.

Indications for use of Gelmedazol

Contraindications

Method of application of Gelmedazol

For patients over 10 years of age with enterobiasis, the drug is given in doses of 100 mg at a time.

Patients 2-10 years old are prescribed doses of 25-50 mg at a time. With an increased risk of re-invasion, the administration can be repeated after 14-28 days at the same dosage.

For ankylostomiasis, trichocephalosis, mixed helminthiasis and ascariasis, the recommended doses are 0.1 g each in the evening and in the morning for 3 days.

Trichinosis is treated with doses of 200-400 mg three times a day for 3 days. From 4 to 10 days, doses of 0.4-0.5 mg are prescribed three times a day.

Side effects of Gelmedazol
