Treatment of worms in humans takes place in several successive stages. Last, but not least, is the elimination of parasites from the body. Why are they displayed

Even in the absence of treatment, worms periodically leave the environment from the body of a permanent host - a person. This occurs after death (the lifespan of helminths is from a month to 15 years), for laying eggs after mating, with multiple infections, going out into an open space to settle new hosts, or as a result of erroneous migrations throughout the body.


With adequate treatment, worms come out en masse. This happens for the following reasons:

  • Neuromuscular blockade. This phenomenon occurs after taking certain anthelmintic drugs in organisms that are sensitive to the active substance. Paralysis develops, which prevents the worms from attaching to the places of fixation, so they are easily removed. The group of such drugs includes Pirantel, Nemozol, Levamisole, Dekaris. After taking them, parasites can come out still alive, but immobilized.
  • Violation of the internal mechanisms of functioning, which lead to the death of the parasite. In this case, excretion is observed after the death of the worms. The drugs of this series include such well-known agents as "Vermox" and "Mebendazole".

There is a separate group of drugs that, at the genetic level, prevent the reproduction of worms. In this case, the helminths come out after their life ends, leaving no next generation behind.

In what form do they come out

After the action of drugs, worms lose their ability to be fixed in a certain place. For some time they can remain alive or are immediately killed.

The result of therapy is that the worms are completely removed from the human body. Moreover, they can be in different forms:

  • alive, partially immobilized;
  • completely paralyzed;
  • dead with whole bodies;
  • fragments.

Sometimes drugs cause destruction of the body walls of the worms. In this case, the parasites are digested by digestive enzymes present in the gastrointestinal tract. Then it is impossible to detect them in feces even with laboratory detection methods.

In other cases, it is not a problem for specialists to see and identify parasites that have emerged from a person. An ordinary person cannot always do this, since after death many of them lose their color, may not have such a pronounced body shape, etc.

If the release of worms after the start of treatment is not confirmed by tests, this may indicate that the drug is not suitable or its dosage is chosen incorrectly.

How are they displayed

The escape route depends on where the parasites were located. Mostly they live in the human body in those cavities that have communication with the external environment, which facilitates their reproduction.


Some species can penetrate the tissues of the lungs, bronchi or stomach. Depending on the habitat, they leave a person in the following ways:

  • through the anus as part of fecal matter;
  • through the mouth from the stomach and upper intestines as part of vomit.

Another way is through the eyes, nose or ears, but this phenomenon is extremely rare.

If a person noticed that he or the child had a worm, then in the near future you should go to a specialist who can send you for diagnosis. If the helminth came out during treatment, then this is a good sign, which means that the parasites are leaving the body.

The rarest case is through the skin. This is typical only for dirofilariae, whose eggs fall under the skin after an insect bite. Moreover, this does not always happen on its own: often a surgical operation is needed to remove the parasite.

How do they look

It is easiest to identify a worm that retains physical activity: it is immediately clear that this is a living organism, and not undigested food particles. The presence of dead helminths can be difficult for a layman to detect. If they go out without treatment, it means that the invasion has come a long time ago, and if during treatment, then the patient is on the way to recovery.

A dead worm can be whole or divided into parts. Often, species with great length come out in parts, for example, tapeworms, tapeworms and tapeworms. Only on rare occasions do they come out in one go.


Remains or fragments are often enveloped in mucus, especially if several days have elapsed between death and evacuation. It happens that whole colonies die, which can disrupt the patency of the digestive tract. Then a cleansing enema is appropriate, which facilitates the release of the rectum.

Parasitic tangles are a sure sign of a high invasion rate. In such a congregation, there can be both living and dead individuals at the same time.

How long does the exit take

The timing during which the helminths will be evacuated from the body primarily depends on the type of drug:

  • "Pirantel" - two days after adoption;
  • "Dekaris" - a day or two;
  • "Albendazole" - a day or three;
  • Praziquantel - a day or three;
  • "Mebendazole" - a day or two;
  • “Piperazine - a day or three.

With a mixed infestation, hatching may last a little longer than usual, but most often this does not exceed a five-day period.
