Bovine tapeworm is a parasite from the class of tapeworms, which chooses humans as the final host. If larvae or a sexually mature individual are found in the body, a diagnosis of teniidosis is made. It is successfully treated if certain rules are followed. However, it is best not to let the parasite enter the body. Today we will talk about preventive measures and dwell on the questions of how not to get infected with a bull tapeworm.

Discovery history

The first mention of the bull chain dates back to the 1500s. It is these parasites that are considered to be the earliest; in the course of evolution, tapeworms were divided into bovine and porcine, due to which they significantly expanded their area of distribution. The first cycle of development of the worm was described by scientists in the 1800s, at the same time the intermediate and final hosts of the parasite were determined.

The helminth chooses a person as the final host. The parasite is able to remain viable in the absence of proper treatment for 25 years.

Structure

The structure of the parasite

The bovine tapeworm is a representative of wide parasites; the length of an adult varies from 4 to 12 meters. History has recorded cases when an adult 22-meter long helminth was found in the human body.

Consists of three morphological parts - head, small neck and body. The structure of the body is ribbon-shaped, this appearance is necessary for the normal functioning of the worm in the human body. The main feature of the helminth is the absence of a digestive system. Absorption of nutrients occurs directly through the trunk membrane, so tapeworms absorb easily digestible carbohydrates from the host's body.

The body consists of segments, its structure is very similar to the appearance of the body of a wide tapeworm. New segments are produced in the neck area and constantly push the old processes towards the posterior end, the latter break off, leave the body with the feces and contribute to the spread of thousands of eggs. An adult contains 1,000 to 2,000 body segments, if not properly treated the life cycle is 25 years. The head has four special suction cups, with which the parasite is attached to the intestinal walls of the host.

Life cycle

The life cycle of a bovine tapeworm contains the following stages:

  1. While in the host's body, the tapeworm produces new segments of its body, and the old ones, along with the eggs, detach and go out together with the feces. One segment can contain up to 100 thousand viable eggs.
  2. The segments are able to move independently on the soil and grass, promoting the spread of eggs. Eggs enter the body of cattle when using grass.
  3. In the intestines of cattle, under the action of the acidic environment, the egg shell is destroyed, and the larvae emerge. The larvae do not remain in the intestines, they spread throughout the entire body of the infected animal.
  4. Conversion to Finn takes place in the muscles of cows and pigs.
  5. The larvae can remain in this state for quite a long time until the final human host eats raw or undercooked meat. The parasite enters the intestines, the larval cysts are destroyed, and an individual comes out, which is attached to the walls with the help of special suction cups.
  6. In the human body, the bovine tapeworm goes through all stages of development and becomes sexually mature. Within a month after infection, it is able to reach a length of 5 meters. The production of new body segments occurs, the old ones with eggs enter the environment.

How does infection occur

On average, individuals need to spend two to three months after penetration to reach sexual maturity. If the problem is not dealt with, the worm can safely live in the intestines for up to 25 years. It enters the body with raw cattle meat.

Most often, there is one parasite in the human body, however, there are cases when two or even three helminths were found in the intestines.

The problem is more often faced by the adult population, this is due to dietary habits. The disease is also recorded in workers of meat processing enterprises, who ignore the rules of personal hygiene.

Symptoms

Most often, the parasite develops in the human body without visible symptoms. When an individual becomes an adult, a feeling of satiety arises. The worm can provoke the occurrence of nausea and vomiting, cause intestinal obstruction. In rare cases, the segments of the parasite can block the worm-like lumen, resulting in acute appendicitis in the patient.

Signs of parasite infection are considered to be:

  1. Poor appetite;
  2. Loss of fat and muscle mass;
  3. Severe pain in the head and abdomen;
  4. General weakness of the body;
  5. Itching sensations in the anus;
  6. Segments of the worm in the feces.

Another specific symptom is a tickling sensation in the thigh area, associated with the feeling that sometimes parts of the parasite are able to leave the intestines and slide down the leg.

Preventive actions

Despite the general effectiveness of antiparasitic treatment, it is much easier to adhere to preventive measures against bovine tapeworm and prevent the occurrence of the disease.

Any meat that goes on sale must undergo a veterinary examination. If the seller refuses to provide you with quality certificates, think a hundred times before buying such products.

Another rule is that the meat of cattle must be thoroughly heat treated, only under the influence of high temperatures it is possible to destroy all the larvae.

Preventive actions

Bovine tapeworm prevention is carried out at all levels. So, the central one provides for the protection of the environment from excrement, which are carriers of eggs. If larvae are found in cattle, the meat is destroyed; in some cases, with low insemination, it is possible to make canned food.

Prevention of bovine tapeworm in humans:

  1. It is recommended to refuse any raw meat, especially pigs and cows. All meat must be adequately heat treated when preparing any food. Before cooking, it is advisable to inspect the meat for the presence of live larvae.
  2. Remember, for larvae, a temperature of 12 degrees below zero is considered fatal, while processing with high temperatures should be at least two hours.
  3. Be attentive to the state of your health, when the first unpleasant symptoms appear (abdominal pain, pale skin, general weakness), you should immediately seek qualified help. If the disease is detected at an early stage, serious complications can be avoided.

Regular medical examinations for the presence of parasites should be carried out by employees of meat processing enterprises.

If at least one family member has become infected with helminths, everyone else must follow careful personal hygiene measures. The patient is given separate dishes, the premises are constantly treated with disinfectants, and the bed linen must be changed periodically.

It is advisable to wash bed linen and other clothes of the patient at high temperatures, and after washing it is necessary to iron it with an iron.

If, with the observance of preventive measures, the infection nevertheless occurred, you can try to cope with the unpleasant problem using folk methods.

Treatment of bovine tapeworm at home

Remember that the earlier the parasite was found in the body, the more effective the treatment with alternative methods will be.

  1. We prepare a decoction of immortelle herb (valerian root is also suitable). We take two teaspoons of the herb, put them in a thermos and pour 500 ml of hot boiled water. It is necessary to infuse the product within 12 hours. It is better to take it warm 3-4 times a day before each meal.
  2. In a container, mix 20 grams of tansy flowers, mint leaves, pumpkin seeds and buckthorn bark. Take 1 tablespoon of the mixture, fill it with 200 ml of water and place in a water bath. The broth is infused for 30 minutes, after which it is filtered and cooled. It is advisable to drink the remedy twice a day (morning and evening) for three days. If there is no result after a week, the treatment can be repeated.
  3. We prepare the body: a week before taking the product, we switch to vegetables and fruits, and immediately before the procedure we do a cleansing enema. We buy fresh slightly salted herring in the store, mill it and grind it in a blender to a state of gruel. Add to seven 2 tablespoons of millet, 3 large cloves of garlic and raw yolk, and chop again. The resulting product must be eaten at a time.
  4. During the war, a patient with bovine tapeworm was fed a large amount of salted fish and was not given water for 2-3 hours. Thereafter, a laxative was given. This procedure was quite painful, as it provoked the tapeworm to leave the body in a natural way.
  5. The safest, but equally effective way to get rid of parasites is to eat pumpkin seeds. The seeds should be dry, but not roasted. When peeling off the husk, the green skin must be preserved on the seeds, since it is this skin that contains the substances involved in the destruction of the parasite. You can eat seeds throughout the day in unlimited quantities, the main condition is not to eat other food and give up water. The last portion of seeds is consumed two hours before bedtime, at the same time it is necessary to drink a saline laxative. Bowel emptying will occur in the morning.

Bovine tapeworm is a dangerous parasite that often develops in the body without symptoms. Preventing the disease is quite simple - stop eating raw meat and follow basic rules of personal hygiene.
