In the treatment of many parasitic diseases, anthelmintics are used, after which it is necessary to use a laxative. This is to facilitate the removal of dead parasites. If this is not done, then decaying helminths will be absorbed from the intestines and poison the body with their toxins. Instead of taking a laxative, you can give an enema, but not everyone tolerates this procedure equally well, and for some patients it is generally contraindicated. That is why it is much easier to use the laxative Duphalac, how many days to take it in the treatment of a parasitic disease, you will learn from our article.

Composition and description

laxative duphalac
laxative duphalac

100 ml of this drug contains 66.7 grams of lactulose, which is the active component of the drug. Water is used as an auxiliary ingredient. To the indicated amount of lactulose, water is added exactly as much as needed to bring the volume to 100 ml.

The product is sold in bottles and plastic bags for one dose. The volume of the bottle can be 0.2; 0.5 and 1 l. It comes with a measuring cup. One dose is sold in a 15 ml plastic bag. There are also plastic bags on sale that contain 800 ml of medicine.

The drug is suitable for adults and children. The effect of the drug is as follows:

  • hyperosmotic laxative;
  • the medicine stimulates intestinal peristalsis;
  • improves the excretion of ammonium ions;
  • promotes the absorption of Ca2 + salts and phosphates.

During the breakdown of lactulose in the colon, it breaks down into low molecular weight acids. This leads to a decrease in acidity, an increase in osmotic pressure and an increase in the amount of intestinal contents. Due to the listed effects, intestinal motility is stimulated. In addition, the consistency of the stool is improved, which helps to get rid of constipation and restore the normal rhythm of colon emptying.

The effectiveness of the drug in hepatic coma and encephalopathy is explained by an increase in the number of acidophilic bacteria and suppression of the number of proteolytic bacteria. As the contents of the large intestine are acidified, ammonia is converted into an ionic form. In addition, with the listed pathologies, Duphalac stimulates bacteria that reduce the concentration of nitrogen-containing toxins and utilize ammonia for protein synthesis.

The drug has a low absorption. It is practically not absorbed from the intestine and reaches the large intestine, where it is broken down by the intestinal flora. When a drug is used in a dose of 45-70 milliliters, it is completely metabolized. If the specified dosage is exceeded, part of the medication is excreted unchanged.

The medicine is intended for oral use. You can drink the drug in undiluted and diluted form. The syrup does not need to be retained in the mouth. A single dose should be swallowed immediately.

Indications for taking the drug:

  • for the regulation of the normal physiological rhythm of the release of the intestines from feces in case of constipation;
  • softening of the stool and improving bowel movements for medical purposes (with helminthiasis, hemorrhoids, after surgery in the anus and colon);
  • with hepatic encephalopathy in the adult population (prevention and therapy of hepatic precoma and coma).

The dosage of the drug is selected individually. If the drug is taken for the purpose of treating a parasitic disease, then it is necessary to strictly observe the time of taking it after using the anthelmintic drug. As a rule, this time is indicated in the instructions for the antiparasitic drug. A single daily dose of the medication should be drunk at the same time.

For an accurate dosage, take the supplied plastic cup. If you use the medicine in bags, then they tear off its corner and drink the entire dose at a time. The daily dose can be divided into two doses, but not in the case of helminthiasis treatment. A persistent therapeutic effect is observed a couple of days after the start of therapy.

For constipation, as well as for medical purposes, for example, in the treatment of helminthiasis, the drug should be used as follows:

  1. For the treatment of adults and adolescents, 15-45 milliliters are prescribed, which is equal to one or three sachets. This is the initial daily dosage, which can later be reduced to 15-30 milliliters (1 or 2 sachets).
  2. Children from seven to 14 years old are prescribed one packet (15 ml) as an initial and maintenance daily dosage.
  3. Children from one to 6 years old are given 5-10 milliliters.
  4. For the treatment of children under one year old, no more than 5 ml of the drug is used.

In the complex treatment of a parasitic ailment, the drug must be taken once a day, 2-4 hours after using an anthelmintic agent. It is equally important to know how much Duphalac to take with helminthiasis. Usually, the drug is taken exactly as much as deworming is performed.

In the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy in adults, the medication is prescribed in a dosage of 30-45 milliliters, which need to be taken 3-4 times a day. The maintenance dosage is selected individually depending on the consistency of the stool. Usually this is at least 2-3 r / d.
