In order to identify parasites in the human body, feces are analyzed for helminths and protozoa. More in-depth diagnostics - coprogram - in addition to detecting worms, gives an idea of the work of the gastrointestinal tract. These studies help to prevent the occurrence of many severe pathologies. To get complete, undistorted information, you need to properly prepare for the collection of feces.

Symptoms of worms in humans

Worms parasitizing in the human body manifest themselves in numerous symptoms. The most common are the following:

  • general weakness;
  • pallor of the skin;
  • weight loss;
  • pain in the intestines and epigastric region;
  • nausea;
  • upset stool;
  • itching in the anal area;
  • rashes on the skin.

Roundworms cause cough, sometimes with bloody sputum, pneumonia, epileptic seizures, jaundice, liver abscess. Some types of helminths provoke headaches, sore joints and muscles, and swelling.

How to get tested for helminths?

Feces are collected only by natural defecation. To collect a stool analysis, in a day or two you need to begin to carry out the appropriate preparation:

  • Avoid foods that have laxative properties that can increase gas or constipation. Tomatoes, beets, dark berries, which stain the feces, are contraindicated.
  • Do not take antibiotics, antivirals and antidiarrheals. After the end of taking antibacterial drugs, feces are collected after 72 hours.
  • Before defecation, women need to wash the perineum: it is impossible for urine impurities and vaginal discharge to get into the biomaterial. But for the accuracy of diagnosis, it is impossible to wash the outer region of the anus.

It is not always necessary to collect feces to detect worms. To detect pinworms (white worms in human feces), which cause enterobiasis, a special cotton swab or duct tape is used to scrape around the anus.

When to collect feces? Can I collect in the evening and in what quantity?

Feces for analysis are collected in the morning and placed in a special plastic container for analysis (sold in a pharmacy). No more than 2/3 of its volume is filled with feces taken from different layers: central, upper and lateral. Patient data and date are indicated on the label.

If a person is used to defecating in the evening, then you can save the analysis of feces from evening to morning on the middle shelf of the refrigerator for 8-12 hours. But it should be borne in mind that after eight hours of storage, the structure and chemical composition of feces change, which will cause an inaccurate diagnosis.

Do not collect feces for research during exacerbation of hemorrhoids, menstruation, in the presence of anal fissures, for 2 days after radiography of the digestive tract (using barium - up to 10 days).

Repeated analyzes

A negative analysis does not guarantee the absence of worms in the body. This is due to the fact that not the parasites themselves are present in the feces, but their eggs, which may not be in the feces. The first study gives an accuracy of 50%.

Repeated tests must be taken after the completed course of treatment.

How long does the analysis take?

In the polyclinic, the analysis is prepared on the same day. The fastest way to do analyzes is under a microscope. If the feces are sent to the laboratory of another institution, the results will come later.

But there are types of studies and techniques that require up to 6 days, for example, analysis of feces for a disgroup, which determines, along with worms, the presence of pathogenic bacteria.

The analysis of feces for the oviplogist is valid for 10 days.

Where can I take it and how much does it cost?

Any medical institution analyzes helminth eggs. A wide range of analyzes is done by paid network medical laboratories: LabStory, SINEVO, Ditrix Medical, INVITRO, CityLab, etc. Approximate prices for Moscow (in rubles):

Analysis type Ditrix Medical CityLab LabStory (St. Petersburg)
Coprogram 495 480 457
On enterobiasis 390 360 420
On helminth eggs and protozoa 390 450 410

In some medical centers, the analysis for worm eggs costs in the range of 180-400 rubles. An analysis for the detection of DNA of round and tapeworms (complex) in LabStory (St. Petersburg) costs 2,500 rubles, and the detection of DNA of one type of helminths - about 800 rubles.

Treatment of worms

It is impossible to neglect the treatment of worms, since some types of helminth diseases lead to disability, sometimes even death. Among the antihelminthic drugs, there are synthetic drugs that act not on one group of worms, but on several at once. These are Pirantel, Dekaris, Praziquantel, Benzimidazole. They are fast, effective, but toxic.

From folk remedies, pumpkin seeds, garlic with milk inside on an empty stomach or in the form of an enema, infusion of onions, fresh juices of melon and carrots have anthelmintic properties.

Output

Helminthic diseases can be asymptomatic for a long time, therefore, each person should take feces for analysis for prophylactic purposes twice a year (especially if cats and dogs live in the house). Correctly carried out collection of feces gives an accurate diagnosis of helminthic infections, adequate treatment of which will preserve health, and maybe life.
