Gardnerellosis (bacterial vaginosis) is an infectious, but not inflammatory, disease in which the vaginal microflora is disrupted. Sometimes pathology occurs during pregnancy. The development of the disease is caused by a specific microorganism - gardnerella vaginalis. With bacterial vaginosis, treatment is carried out by a gynecologist.

Causes of occurrence

Violation of the vaginal microflora is observed after gardnerella enters the parts of the woman's reproductive system. This happens when unprotected intimacy with the carrier of this microorganism. Less common is the contact-household route of infection (if a woman has used personal items of an infected person).

After the pathogen enters the parts of the genitourinary system, the natural microflora of the vagina is replaced. Normally, in addition to the rest of the leaving units, the vaginal environment is represented by lactobacilli. But with vaginosis, their number is reduced to a minimum.

Gardnerellosis develops in cases where the immune system is weakened. The decrease in the protective properties of the body is facilitated by:

  • Hormonal imbalance.
  • Frequent hypothermia.
  • Stay in a stressful environment.
  • Abortion.
  • Fasting or following a strict diet.
  • Lack of sleep.
  • The presence of chronic inflammatory processes in the intestine.
  • Unreasonably frequent vaginal douching.

In late pregnancy, gadnerellosis can occur due to the presence of an obstetric pessary. This is a special device that prevents premature dilatation of the cervix and the onset of labor.

Sometimes gardnerellosis develops due to a decrease in immunity against the background of hormonal therapy. Preparations of this group at the stage of planning pregnancy for a woman are prescribed by a gynecologist.

If bacterial vaginosis occurs after a woman has become pregnant, this is due to her immunity. During gestation, the protective properties of the body are reduced, which is necessary for the full implantation of the ovum.

Symptoms

At different stages of pregnancy, a woman may notice the following symptoms of gardnerellosis:

  • Exhausting itching inside the vagina.
  • Unpleasant sensations during urination (burning, cramps, increased urge).
  • Drawing pains in the lower abdomen.
  • Feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder.

The discharge is white, light yellow or gray, foamy or creamy, fishy or putrid odor. At this stage, a woman may mistake the manifestations of vaginosis for symptoms of thrush.

During the examination on the gynecological chair, the doctor determines that the mucous membranes of the patient's vagina are edematous, with pronounced redness.

Signs of bacterial vaginosis resemble the symptoms of trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, cervicitis. Therefore, a thorough differential (comparative) diagnosis is required.

Treatment

Treatment for gardnerella in pregnant women consists of limited use of medication, dietary intake and sexual rest. Therapy for patients carrying a child is carried out on an outpatient basis - no hospitalization is required. But if a woman has severe consequences of bacterial vaginosis (for example, the threat of miscarriage), the pregnant woman is left in the gynecological department. Doctors monitor her condition, and if necessary, administer medications.

For a specialist to make an effective treatment, he needs to take into account the results of the patient's examination. Therefore, a woman needs to undergo tests. The most informative of them are the study of vaginal secretion, blood and urine tests (clinical, biochemical, bacteriological).

Drug therapy

The goal of undergoing therapy for bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy is to reduce the risk of developing intrauterine disorders in a child.

The most favorable period for undergoing therapy for bacterial vaginosis is the 2nd trimester.

Standard treatment program:

  1. Antiseptic drugs. Betadine is administered intravaginally. The dosage of the drug and the duration of the course are determined by a specialist;
  2. Combined drugs (for example, Terzhinan), administered intravaginally;
  3. Antibacterial drugs. Metronidazole is prescribed only when the therapeutic efficacy for the pregnant woman is higher than the potential risk for the child.

Women who have gadnerella vaginalis are advised to abandon physiological childbirth in favor of a cesarean section. This avoids the transmission of the pathogenic microorganism to the child. While passing through the birth canal, it can become infected by contact with mucous membranes, on which pathogenic bacteria are present.

Diet

To minimize the severity of the symptoms that manifest bacterial vaginosis, you should avoid using:

  • Sour, spicy, salty food;
  • Carbonated drinks;
  • Coffee;
  • Confectionery.

A favorable condition for the progression of gardnerellosis is the presence of a high concentration of glycogen in the body. Therefore, the listed diet negatively affects the state of the vaginal microflora, and such nutrition should be avoided.

Prevention measures

The effect of gardnerella on the fetus during pregnancy is unfavorable, which further emphasizes the importance of preventing the development of this disease. To prevent bacterial vaginosis, you must:

  1. Avoid unprotected intimacy with an unfamiliar partner;
  2. Refuse to use other people's personal hygiene products;
  3. Avoid going to public toilets;
  4. Do not overcool.

Additional preventive measures - refusal from unreasonable douching, seasonal vitamin therapy.

Output

Gardnerellosis is an infectious, but non-inflammatory disease that adversely affects the bearing of a child. To avoid the ingress of pathogenic microflora into the departments of the genitourinary system, you need to increase immunity, avoid casual sexual intercourse. Gardnerella vaginalis lends itself well to elimination with medication, but treatment should be prescribed by an observing gynecologist.
