Types of ticks at their summer cottage

In total, more than 40 thousand species of ticks are known, but not all of them are a threat. Carriers of dangerous infections that can be found on the site are ixodid. They are the ones that often cause encephalitis, Lyme disease and other serious diseases. They differ from others in their size - they can grow up to 2.5 cm in length.

Ixodid ticks are distributed almost throughout the territory of Eurasia. They are more often inhabited in the foliage of trees, shrubs and in dense grass. Arthropods mainly parasitize wild and domestic animals, but they do not bypass humans either. The tick attached to the victim can feed on blood for up to 3 weeks.

The group of ixodid parasites includes several species. The following ticks are common at the latitudes of Russia:

  • taiga - lives in mixed forests;
  • European forest, despite the name, feel good in meadows;
  • meadow, lives in clearings of forests, glades, in rare thickets of bushes.

A full-fledged treatment of the garden from ticks with special means becomes the only salvation from them.

Destruction of ticks in the area

Getting rid of ticks at once will not work at all - the fight against parasites is seasonal. Treatment for ticks is usually carried out in spring and autumn - at the peak of high activity.

Identification of ticks in the area

To kill ticks, the territory is usually treated with special preparations. These are strong poisons, dangerous not only for insects, but also for people and pets. In order not to put yourself at risk in vain, it is worth checking if there are ticks at all on the site.

Testing is carried out in the morning after the dew has melted. For this you will need:

  • white fabric (better embossed, like a waffle towel) - a square, about 1 meter;
  • a long stick to which you need to attach the fabric.

With this "tick finder", you should walk slowly over the area, running the cloth over the grass. If there are no insects on the fabric, processing is not necessary. If they are found, disinfection is indispensable.

Preparations for treating the area from ticks

In hardware stores, there are various mite repellents for treating the site. The main components in them are cypermethrin and fenthion. On the good side, the following acaricides have proven themselves:

Dobrokhim FOS

Apply a pest control agent in residential and non-residential premises, and in open areas. In addition to ixodid ticks, the drug destroys cockroaches, ants, bedbugs, mosquitoes and their larvae.

Main active ingredient: fenthion.

Solution preparation:

The drug is diluted at the rate of 10 ml per 1 liter of water. This amount is sufficient for the treatment of 1 hectare, with a low coverage of plants. With a dense grass cover, prepare 1.5 liters of emulsion.

After processing, it is advisable not to be on the territory for one week.

An aqueous emulsion with a high concentration of the basic substance. It is used for the extermination of ticks in the area and for the fight against other insect pests in everyday life. The drug does not leave traces, has no odor and does not accumulate in space. The effectiveness of the product lasts about two months.

The active ingredient is zetacypermethrin.

Solution preparation:

The emulsion is prepared depending on the mass of mites accumulation in the area and the density of planting: from 2.5 to 7.5 ml of the product per 1 liter of water.

Concentrated product for the control of household insect pests and mites on the site. The action of the drug begins from the very first minutes: the active substance (cypermethrin) enters the insect through the mouth and chitinous cover. The parasite is paralyzed and dies. The death of ticks occurs within half an hour. The effect of the substance on the territory lasts up to 6 weeks.

How to breed Tsifox from ticks at home:

The concentration of the emulsion depends on the mass infestation of the area by pests and the density of the vegetation cover. Prepared from the calculation: from 2.5 to 7.5 ml of the product per 1 liter of water.

The drug is in the form of white crystalline granules. Dissolved in water withstands concentration, does not delaminate and does not settle. The product is not dangerous for birds and microorganisms living in the soil. It is used for the destruction of insects in premises for various purposes.

The active ingredient is alphacypermethrin.

Solution preparation:

The amount of the product used depends on the density of vegetation on the site. For 1 liter of water, dilute from 4 to 10 g of powder. The required amount is prepared on the basis that 100 liters of working suspension will be needed per hectare of area.

It is also important to calculate the amount of solution for a specific area so that there is no unspent funds left that will require disposal.

Folk methods of struggle

If it is not possible to carry out a full-fledged acaricidal treatment, methods that are harmless to humans and animals can be used. Unfortunately, folk remedies will not destroy pests on the site, but will reduce their number on the site. This treatment can be carried out during the ripening and harvesting period, when the chemicals can no longer be used.

To scare away ticks from the site, the following methods are used:

  • soda or boric acid, scattered on the site;
  • spraying with a solution of water with citrus juice;
  • treatment of the site with infusion of repellent plants: geranium, mint, chamomile and others;
  • a few drops of highly scented essential oils added to the water will also protect the area from invasion.

When working with toxic substances, one must not forget about safety precautions:

  1. Processing is carried out in overalls: a protective suit (dressing gown or overalls), kerchief, gloves, glasses and a respirator.
  2. Spraying of the territory is carried out in dry, warm and calm weather: the wind does not carry chemicals to the side, and ticks do not hide deep into the greenery.
  3. The vegetable garden and orchard are processed 40 days before the fruit ripens.
  4. On the day of processing and the next three days after it, close access to the site for children and pets.
  5. If there are bodies of water on the site, cover them with dense material before processing.
  6. After all work, carefully remove the protective equipment from yourself, rinse them, and wash your hands and face well under running water and soap.
  7. It is better to agree with them in advance about simultaneous processing so that ticks do not make their way to you from a neighboring area,

Prevention of the appearance of ticks in the country

It is possible to reduce the spread of pests on the site and avoid the need to apply chemicals. To do this, you need to deprive them of comfortable living conditions:

  1. Carry out regular mowing of lawns, remove mowed grass. In autumn, rake the remains of tops and fallen leaves.
  2. Do not litter the site.
  3. Make a protective barrier along the perimeter of the territory: cover a strip 1 m wide with gravel or rubble.
  4. Fight small rodents that carry tick larvae.
  5. Plant repellent plants on the site: mint, rosemary, horseradish, herbs and others.

Additionally, you can protect yourself and animals from tick bites. To do this, you can use essential oils of clove or tea tree. The product is sprayed on clothes, shoes, animals are coated with wool.

Ticks are carriers of pathogens of serious diseases. When they appear on the site, it is necessary to immediately take measures to destroy pests. Processing is usually carried out in spring and autumn: during the period of greatest activity. For disinfection, acaricidal preparations are used, which are dangerous for animals, so it is important to close their access to the treated area for several days. To prevent the multiplication of ticks, take preventive measures annually.
