Several hundred parasites can enter the body of a modern person, which cause dire consequences. But most often it is children who are subject to infection, since the child's body is not yet fully formed, and the immunity is not as strong as in an adult.

One of the most common childhood diseases associated with parasites is giardiasis, caused by the penetration of parasites such as lamblia into the body.

What is Giardia and how are they infected?

This disease occurs as a result of non-observance of basic rules of personal hygiene, the use of contaminated water and poorly washed vegetables and fruits.

The habitat of parasites is the parts of the human small intestine, and when they enter an environment unfavorable for their existence, they do not die, but are converted into cysts, which are covered with their own membrane and are excreted from the body along with feces.

Cysts are very viable and can survive for up to a month in water at temperatures up to 20 degrees or up to three weeks in feces. But, for example, boiling kills them instantly, and temperatures over 60 degrees - after 5-10 minutes.

Symptoms of infection with labmiosis

Once in the human body, cysts turn into lamblia, which very quickly spread through the human digestive tract.

Depending on the degree of penetration, this process has the following symptoms:

  • alternation of constipation with diarrhea;
  • abdominal pain;
  • bloating, flatulence;
  • nausea, vomiting;
  • increased body temperature;
  • general weakness, poor sleep.

In which hospitals is giardiasis diagnosed?

Depending on your personal wishes, you can contact any private or state clinic or laboratory, or a specialized diagnostic center.

Only the cost and the length of the queues depend on the place you choose for the tests.

Methods for diagnosing giardiasis

This question interests all parents, so it is necessary to find out all the conditions for a correct diagnosis:

  • a week before taking an analysis for lamblia, it is necessary to exclude the intake of all anti-parasitic drugs;
  • you cannot load the body with physical activity the day before and on the day of testing;
  • exclude all fatty, spicy and fried foods from the diet the day before the examination;
  • blood can only be donated on an empty stomach.

How to detect lamblia by blood test?

If a person has lamblia, then a blood test will tell about it. The presence of lamblia in the body is evidenced by the presence of IgM and IgG antibodies in the blood. If a person is infected, then the body begins to produce these antibodies, which is an indicator of the presence of parasites.

But this method is not perfect, since it shows accurate results only after 1-3 weeks of infection, and antibodies in the patient's blood can be detected even within six months after recovery, which makes the treatment process not entirely objective and correct.

Examination using feces

Analysis of feces for lamblia is a more accurate way to diagnose the presence of parasites in the body, but it also has a number of its own characteristics that you need to know about. First of all, it should be borne in mind that a single analysis of feces for giardiasis will not always give the correct result.

The fact is that cysts are excreted from the body not uniformly, but at different intervals in time, therefore a negative result for their presence in feces does not give an accurate guarantee of their absence in the body once.

An important point in the diagnosis in this way is the correct collection of feces. The chair should be collected in a special container for biological material with the attached spatula from different places of the feces.

The container must be sterile and must be opened immediately before the analysis. Violation of these conditions can lead to incorrect research results. It is advisable to deliver the material to the laboratory within 20 minutes after collection, since it is during this time that it is possible to see the mobile form of lamblia.

Exceeding this time interval leads to a critical decrease in the reliability of the test results, which makes them ineffective. If it is impossible to fit in the required period of time, then it is necessary to take special preservatives from the laboratory in advance, which make it possible to preserve the fecal sample for a longer time.

As a rule, doctors prescribe complex tests for lamblia in young children and adults in order to get a complete and reliable picture of the disease, if it is present.

Prevention of giardiasis

It must be remembered that it is much easier to prevent the appearance of parasites in the body, including lamblia, than to treat them later. And the key rule to prevent sources of infection from entering the body is the observance of basic personal hygiene.

You also need to take into account the fact that if giardiasis was found in someone from your family, then it is mandatory for him to use separate dishes, personal items and disinfect common areas.
