In Russia, there are twenty types of helminths (worms), which have already become carriers of seven out of ten people. Invasion of the body with worms occurs upon contact with a carrier or through things.

To find out whether or not you have worms and correctly determine the species, you need to systematically examine for eggs, worms, larvae and adult worms.

The most common and effective check is to take blood and feces tests for worms.

When it comes to obvious signals of infection, such as itching in the anal area, worms in the feces, this indicates a critical infection and the need for urgent treatment.

To understand what kind of analysis should be taken for worms in each separate treatment, you need to know the types of invasions. If enterobiasis is suspected, a smear on the ovum leaf will be enough.

Although experts recommend doing up to five examinations if signs of the disease are expressed and the results of the initial examinations are negative. After all, eggs are laid at intervals, and not every day. Experience shows that the fifth smear gives a 99% probability.

Coproovoscopic method

The most common examination is the analysis of feces for worm eggs and a smear in the anal sphincter region (coproovoscopy). The study of feces serves to identify the eggs of pathogens and to recognize the type of helminthiasis. The same tasks are solved by means of an anal smear. So you can recognize pinworms that cause the disease - enterobiasis.

The dysbacteriosis test will reveal the suppression of normal E. coli, which is typical for helminthiasis. You can collect the material for analysis yourself. If there is no opportunity or desire to deal with feces, then you can take a smear.

Pinworm eggs are usually found in rectal mucus, but not in the intestinal lumen. Why a smear is more indicative of pinworms than a feces examination.

A single study may not always show infection, especially with low invasiveness. The doctor will tell you what tests for worms should be passed and determine the plan. It is recommended to analyze feces in several approaches with intervals of 3-5 days.

According to the analysis of feces, a false positive answer is impossible. If helminth eggs or cysts are present, then there is an infection. A false negative answer does not guarantee that there are no pathogens. The eggs of the worms appear periodically and may be in different stages of embryogenesis. And pinworms are generally characterized by nocturnal egg deposition, while analyzes are taken during the day.

Histological test

The histological fecal test is more meaningful. It makes it possible to apply a multifaceted study of the material, with colored sections. In which not only whole eggs and larvae are visible, but also particles of worms, shells of hatched larvae, are successfully identified.

Feces can be stored longer than smears, which contributes to the judgment of the progress of treatment. The technique is used infrequently due to expensive equipment.

Determination by blood

When dealing with poor health, a complete blood count is performed first. As the worms enter the organs, they change the blood. High hemoglobin, signs of ESR, the level of eosinophils and sometimes anemia - all this hints at helminthiasis.

Modern testing of blood for helminthiasis reveals with high reliability not only the presence of pathogens, but also their variety. This plays a major role in identifying an infection that cannot be detected by a stool or smear test.

Knott's way

With worms, a clinical blood test can be called error-free and advanced, it recognizes pests with an accuracy of 95%.

Blood for worms is studied by the modified Knott method, as the blood test is called, in which the hemolyzed drug is filtered, fixing the filter with heated water and tint using the Romanovsky-Giemsa method. Then it is dried, clarified and examined under glass. The shown method is useful for determining the amount of the pathogen.

A blood test for worms is resorted to to determine the invasive effect on the blood (an increase in hemoglobin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, eosinophilia). With all helminthic infections, an increase in the number of eosinophils is observed. In addition, with ascariasis, leukocytes also multiply.

Biochemical analysis

Blood for worms is also tested biochemically. The tests reveal an increase in alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin and activation of aminotransferase.

With complex enterobiasis, hemoglobin decreases very significantly.

The most advanced way to diagnose helminthiasis is enzyme immunoassay (serological method).

Linked immunosorbent assay

It is important to check the blood for worms when the main symptoms are repeated colds, thinning of nails and hair, constipation and allergic skin reactions. Even if a standard analysis is performed showing no disease, ELISA will reveal the full picture.

The main motives for the test are: the assumption of helminthic invasions, high leukocytosis, preventive examination, the epidemiological situation. Using this blood test for worms, you can recognize all types of pests, the smallest number of them, accurately determine the type of immunoglobulins and describe the change in the process.

Delivery of analysis

Blood is taken from a vein on an empty stomach, you can drink water without gas. The break after eating can not be less than 8 hours, two days without fatty, salty and spicy. The check will be more adequate if the break in taking medications is brought up to two weeks. If the test is taken without abandoning the drugs, then it is necessary to bring their names to the laboratory assistant in order to reduce the research error.

The analysis is investigated for up to five days, a positive answer will show helminthiasis. If the results are controversial, then a new test is prescribed in half a month. The study takes place directly in the clinic.

Worms are one of the most dangerous parasites. Launched helminthiases lead to the most dire consequences (up to death). Therefore, it is important to take tests for worms systematically. Without blood tests and accurate identification of the pathogen, treatment will be ineffective.
