What are worms
What are worms? Worms are scientifically called helminths. Helminths mean any worms that parasitize in the organisms of people, animals, plants. Accordingly, worms are not a specific type of parasite, but a whole group of different worms, three of which are the most common.
Treatment of worms. Some scientists argue that almost the entire population of the Earth is infected with one or another parasitic worm. However, in this case, helminthic infestations should be the most common types of diseases in the world, besides, a number of serious studies prove that in fact everything is not so bad. But the thought that helminths are still present in a person makes him immediately look for an answer to the question of how to get rid of the worms.
Treatment of worms. It should also be understood that helminthic invasion is still not something rare and insignificant. There are more than three hundred species of them, the larvae in humans do not only enter the intestines and continue to develop there, gradually poisoning the body. Let's figure out what are the symptoms of worms in humans, because the warned, as you know, is armed. And then we will learn how to get rid of worms effectively and what is needed to prevent them from returning.
It is actually very easy to determine the presence of worms in the body of any person - you just need to pass a feces test. The problem, however, is that most people don't even think of being tested. The problem is that helminths in adults and children manifest themselves, disguising themselves as a huge number of diseases, and at first they do not betray their presence at all. A person can heal the intestines, liver, kidneys, stomach, gall bladder for years, and the root of evil will be helminthiases and parasites, which feel great when they are not fought with.
Often, helminthic invasion causes the development of diseases that have nothing to do with the helminths themselves. And in this case, you can be treated endlessly, if you do not understand in time what is the matter. All this proves that worms are not just an unpleasant phenomenon. And given the presence of a huge number of ways of infection, it is vitally important to know the signs of worms in humans.
What are the worms?
Treatment of worms. Medicine knows more than a hundred varieties of helminths. The following are the most common types of worms:
- Pinworms are small worms in the human body that reach 12 mm in length. Diagnose this type of worms in the intestinal mucosa. Parasites enter the body with dust through the respiratory tract and can be easily transmitted from person to person.
- Roundworms are large round worms that are more common in the small intestine. Infection of the body occurs through unwashed hands and food. More often roundworms are found in the body of children.
- Trichinella - these parasites have round bodies no more than 5 mm in length and excite trichinosis in the body. Larvae and eggs prefer to be in poorly fried meat (wild boar, pork, bear meat). In the human body, Trichinella takes up to 4 days to become an adult, and its life cycle is 40 days. The main purpose of this type of worm is to enter the bloodstream through the intestinal walls and settle in the muscles. Moreover, the muscles of the respiratory and musculoskeletal systems are often affected.
- Pork / bovine tapeworm. The length of the body of the parasite is 5-6 meters, and its larvae hide in the meat of large animals (pork, cattle). The disease awakened by these helminths is called teniasis and teniarinhoses. The larvae of both types of tapeworms - Finns, are whitish vesicles attached to the walls of the small intestine. The parasite needs 3 months to reach and form an adult, and the worm develops every day. The total number of segments reaches 2000, the terminal of which freely "furrow" the large intestine. Then the worms leave the body along with the feces through the anus. The most common and obvious symptom of helminthiasis is a disturbed digestive tract, as well as food consumption in large volumes, and the patient does not visually gain weight.
- Necator / hookworm. The connection between these parasites is direct, due to the caused ailments and biological characteristics. They live in the duodenum, and due to their small size (10-15 mm) move freely in its environment. Larvae can enter the body only through the skin if a person has come into contact with contaminated soil. A further target of the worms are the lungs along with the digestive tract. They feed only on blood that comes out of the bitten blood vessels. As a result of the vigorous activity of these parasites, blood clotting is disrupted. During the day, adults consume blood in the range of 0.1-0.35 ml.
- Echinococcus. In this case, a person acts as an intermediate owner, because wolves, cats, dogs are the final ones. Animals can become infected by their direct contact with contaminated objects or people. As soon as the eggs of the parasite have entered the intestines, larvae with six hooks develop immediately, which are called oncospheres in medicine.
- Vlasoglavs - are diagnosed in the stomach of a person. These are thin and rather large worms.
Treatment of worms. You can determine the type of helminths by seeing what color the worms are in the feces when they come out. Infection occurs through vegetables and meat that have undergone insufficient heat treatment. You can avoid infection by following the rules of food preparation.
How can you get infected with worms
Through the soil: after any contact with the ground, sand, you should not just wash your hands, but thoroughly clean your nails, it is better to have short-cropped nails, especially for children. Food products that grow in the ground - vegetables, herbs, fruits, berries, mushrooms, everything related to the ground requires thorough washing under running water and scalding with boiling water. Pets, primarily dogs and cats, walking on the street, bring a lot of sewage into the house, and children playing with them are at the maximum risk of infection, the animal can easily infect it with all kinds of helminths.
Flies are also the main carriers of helminths, being in public toilets, places where agricultural livestock live, flies then calmly sit on food, spreading eggs on their wings and legs.
- From person to person: With pinworms, infection of others is very easy. When a female pinworm crawls out of the intestines at night, she lays about 5,000 eggs near the anus, which causes severe itching, the child, combing the itchy place, sows them on his hands, nails, panties, bed linen. Without washing his hands at once, hundreds of eggs remain on all the objects he touches - doorknobs, clothes, food, toys. Further, the process of infection is understandable, eggs also settle on the hands of another child or adult using these objects, and without washing their hands before eating, they fall into the mouth of a healthy person;
through the water: a huge number of worm eggs fall into open reservoirs, into well water. Therefore, those who live in rural areas or in the country should use a bactericidal filter and be sure to boil water; it is also dangerous to swallow water when swimming in open water. Everyone knows that worms are mainly a problem for children. Firstly, because they are most susceptible to the development of helminthiasis, since the protective barriers in the child's body are not properly formed, the acidity of the stomach is lower than that of an adult. Secondly, preschool children, mastering the world, taste all the surrounding objects not only with their hands, but also with their taste. And parents, with all their might, can teach their child to strictly follow the rules of personal hygiene, without reminders, only by the age of 3-6, which puts not only the baby at risk of infection (pinworms),but also all family members
Treatment of worms. It should be remembered that no worms can reproduce and multiply in the human body, each species has its own period of time after which they die, for example, in pinworms it is only a few weeks, in ascaris about a year.
Eggs laid by adults must leave the body either with feces, or (in the case of pinworms) on the skin near the anus, into the external environment, into the soil, and only then, having matured outside the human body and getting into it again, they begin to activate and parasitize.
Since worms cannot multiply in the human body, an increase in the number of adults in the intestines of an already infected person is possible only with re-infection, when the eggs again enter the body through the mouth. That is, if we exclude re-infection, which is possible only if strict rules of hygiene and some preventive measures are not followed, then in the case of pinworms, for example, a person could get rid of worms in 3-4 weeks without any treatment.
Diagnosis of worms in humans
Diagnostics of worms is carried out by identifying eggs and larvae of helminths. The biological substrate for the study of worms is feces, urine, sputum, duodenal contents and bile, mucus, rectal and perianal scrapings, muscle tissue, blood. Taking into account that most of all the parasites are localized in the gastrointestinal tract, they usually examine the feces (feces).
Treatment of worms. Isolated helminths and their fragments (segments, scraps of strobila, heads) are detected by macroscopic methods, eggs and larvae are detected by microscopy.
In the acute phase of helminthiasis, as well as diseases caused by tissue parasites or larvae (toxocariasis, trichinosis, cysticercosis, echinococcosis), serological methods are used, such as the reaction of complement binding, indirect agglutination, immunofluorescence, lysis agglutination, and the rest.
Also, with some helminthic invasions (echinococcosis, cysticercosis), such instrumental studies as ultrasound, computed tomography, radiography, magnetic resonance imaging, endoscopic methods, including endobiopsy, are of fundamental importance.
Symptoms of worms in humans
Sometimes worms can parasitize for a long time without noticeable symptoms in the body of an adult, in some cases they cause the development of various chronic diseases, cause dangerous complications and even death.
Treatment of worms. With the onset of the acute period of helminthiasis, worms are taken to intensively feed in the intestines of a sick person, causing various signs of a violation of the digestive system: dysbiosis, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
We list the most common, common symptoms of worms in humans:
- dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract - diarrhea, constipation, as well as abdominal pain;
- pain in joints and muscles - parasites can move through the human body in order to settle in the most convenient places for their life, for example, in the joint fluid and muscles. When this happens, the person experiences pain;
- disorders of the nervous system and general malaise - manifests itself in the form of rapid fatigue, irritability, sleep disturbances and memory problems;
- allergic reactions and skin manifestations - the appearance of acne, acne and other rashes - these are also signs of the presence of worms in humans;
- decreased immunity and, as a result, the development of infectious diseases;
- a sharp decrease in body weight;
- anemia - some worms suck blood from the intestinal walls like leeches;
- teeth grinding in sleep, and sleep disturbance;
- itching in the anus, especially at night. At this time, the female actively lays eggs, thereby causing itching in the anus;
- swollen lymph nodes, low-grade body temperature;
- airway inflammation - cough, fever, phlegm, runny nose - this is how the presence of worms can manifest.
The specific first signs will directly depend on the pathogen and the location of the worm in the human body. For example, large worms, flukes and tapeworms like to parasitize in the liver, this can lead to degeneration of the liver cells, blockage of the biliary tract, blood clots, cirrhosis. Roundworms and pinworms live in the intestines, so they will be excreted with feces. To find out how to remove these worms from a person, you should consult a doctor, he will prescribe a suitable remedy.
Treatment of worms. Symptoms of infection with worms can appear at different times from the moment of infection with worms. So, the first symptoms of ascariasis appear after 2-3 days. With most of all other helminthic invasions, symptoms of the disease appear in 2-3 weeks.
Most often, the main signs of infection with worms in an adult are presented by allergic manifestations in the form of itching and rash, edema, weakness, muscle pain, headache, fever, muscle and joint pain, an increase in the number of eosinophils in the blood, etc. Being parasites, worms feed on the organism of their host. At the same time, they absorb a significant amount of proteins and carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and other nutrients. Helminthiasis can be acute and chronic. The first ones last 2-3 weeks and are often manifested by allergies, while the chronic stage can last for months, years and even decades.
Signs of worms in humans
- Disorders of the gastrointestinal tract: if helminths are localized in the intestine, and not in the tissues and organs of the body, then the main signs of the presence of worms in humans are disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, such as persistent diarrhea, chronic constipation, nausea or recurrent vomiting, abdominal pain, especially near the navel, pain in the right hypochondrium, flatulence (bloating). These symptoms of the presence of worms in a person can be mild, and be more intense and prolonged;
disorders of the nervous system and general malaise: in the course of their vital activity, the worms release a mass of toxic substances, and the stronger the infection, the more intense the symptoms of intoxication of the body, the negative effect on the nervous system of children and adults.
This is manifested by headache, dizziness combined with nausea - in these cases, a person can perceive it as a migraine and treat it with pain medications (see migraine, symptoms, treatment, and also triptans for migraine). There may also be joint pain, body temperature rise to subfebrile numbers or even fever. Treatment of worms. Also, the lack of vitamins and nutrients that a person loses due to helminthiasis, in combination with the suppression of the nervous system, lead to the development of chronic fatigue syndrome, constant drowsiness and weakness, anemia appears, children may become more capricious, irritable, their sleep is disturbed, can have insomnia (see how to fall asleep quickly), screams at night, nightmares, due to absent-mindedness and inattention, children may lag behind in their studies;
- allergic reactions and skin manifestations: with worms in a person, the condition of the skin worsens. The products of life of worms desensitize the body and cause proteins similar to them to be perceived as allergens, which is manifested by skin reactions. Skin rashes are the result of the release of histamine from mast cells and the accumulation of a liquid part of the blood in the tissue with a partial lifting of the epidermis.
a decrease in immunity and, as a consequence, the development of infectious diseases: such a toxic effect, as well as the deprivation of a person of some nutrients, vitamins and minerals, leads to a significant decrease in the host's immunity. This can be manifested either by an exacerbation of existing chronic diseases, or various inflammatory processes in the nasopharynx begin - sinusitis, sinusitis, stomatitis (stomatitis in children, stomatitis in adults), even girls and women may develop various inflammatory processes in the genitals - vulvovaginitis, bacterial vaginosis (discharge with the smell of fish), even inflammation of the uterine appendages in girls is considered possible due to prolonged helminthic invasion of pinworms. (see pinworms in children, symptoms)
Medicine for worms in humans
Treatment of worms. Today, traditional and folk medicine offers successful disposal of worms. It is worth considering that the disease itself, left unattended, will not go away, but will progress. Helminths provoke the occurrence of inflammatory processes in the body, have a negative effect on the immune system, their presence affects the well-being and general state of human health.
The process of getting rid of the body from worms is called deworming. It is carried out with the help of special medicines. Before prescribing them, a specialist must establish an accurate diagnosis: different helminths are sensitive to different drugs. Along with anthelmintic agents, in the process of treating worms, it is recommended to take antihistamines that reduce the likelihood of an allergic reaction to one or another substance that is part of them.
It is safe to get rid of worms using alternative methods of treatment, before using which it is also recommended to consult a specialist. It is impossible to resort to self-therapy, especially when it comes to such dangerous and serious diseases as alveococcosis, teniarinchiasis, diphyllobothriasis.
Treatment of worms. The choice of a drug for treatment depends on the presence of specific worms in the human body. For intestinal helminthiasis, Niclosamide and Mebendazole are used. Praziquantel is effective against flatworms that affect the lungs and liver.
Niclosamide is a drug that promotes the natural release of worms from the body, has a paralytic effect on worms, and is recommended for adults and children from 2 years of age (only under the supervision of a specialist).
Mebendazole is a broad-spectrum drug, effective against various types of helminths, including pinworms, whipworms, ascaris, promotes the destruction of adults and larvae of worms, highly toxic.
Praziquantel is a remedy for worms, a drug prescribed in the treatment of diseases caused by the presence of tapeworms in the human body - broad tapeworm, echinococcus, bovine tapeworm, etc., is not recommended for the treatment of children under 4 years of age.
Some helminthiases do not respond well to drug therapy; if they are available, surgical treatment is indicated, that is, the removal of the worm with a portion of the organ affected by it.
Treatment of worms with folk remedies
Treatment of worms. With worms (roundworms, pinworms, lamblia), a daily intake gives good results of treatment:
- pumpkin seed oil - 40 drops before or after each meal;
- 50 ml of cognac + 1 tbsp. tablespoons of castor oil (after eating, preferably in the morning);
- decoction of flax seed (2 tablespoons of flax seed per 1 liter of boiling water);
- onion broth (pour 1 onion 200 ml of boiling water, leave for 2 days, use before meals for 4 days).
It is recommended to resort to treatment with folk remedies in the presence of worms during pregnancy, since drugs that have an anthelmintic effect are very toxic and can have a negative effect on the intrauterine development of the fetus.
During treatment, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the intestines, avoid the use of foods that fix the stool, and carefully observe personal hygiene.
