Most helminths enter the human body in the form of microscopic larvae, which, feeding on our strength, juices and even blood, grow to the size of adults. Ascaris length, for example, can reach 30 cm!

Due to the close proximity of our organs to helminths, the absorption of vitamins and microelements is most often inhibited, which at best affects the condition of the skin (peeling, rashes appear), hair (they begin to fall out intensively) and vision. The more serious consequences of being in the body of uninvited guests include:

  • allergic reactions, vascular lesions, prolonged fever, swollen lymph nodes;
  • irritability, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, restless sleep, sometimes - epileptic seizures;
  • attacks of general weakness in people who lead an absolutely normal healthy lifestyle - eat a balanced diet, take vitamins, do not experience stress at home and at work;
  • fluctuations in weight (its loss or increase) with a normal diet.

Mechanism of action

Once in the body, albendazole disrupts the metabolism in parasite cells, which leads to their death. Moreover, the drug is active not only against adults, but also against eggs, larvae and even unicellular pathogens.

"Vormil" effectively fights intestinal parasites: roundworms (human roundworm, human whipworm, pinworm, crooked head, American nekator, intestinal eel, migratory larvae), tapeworms (dwarf, pork, bovine), flatworms (squirrel) and Chinese fluke protozoa (lamblia).

This drug is also active against tissue parasites (echinococcus, gnatostom, etc.). By killing echinococci, "Vormil" at the same time contributes to the disappearance or reduction of cysts created by them.

When taken orally, no more than 5% of albendazole is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, but a fatty meal fivefold increases the absorption of the drug. The active substance is processed by the liver and leaves the body mainly together with bile and also with urine.

Treatment with Vormil

All these symptoms indicate that it is time to pass tests for the presence of helminths in the body. The most informative in this regard is a blood test and vegetative resonance diagnostics. If the results of the examination confirm the presence of worms or their eggs, you should not worry - modern anthelmintic drugs successfully fight parasites. One of such highly effective agents is Vormil, a broad-spectrum drug for the treatment and prevention of helminthic invasions.

It can be taken by both adults and children (by the way, all family members need to be treated for helminthiasis). Due to the unique formula and, accordingly, the unique mechanism of action, the drug Vormil is active against all forms of parasites - larvae, eggs, adults and cysts, and in the fight against round, tapeworms and protozoa (lamblia), parasitizing not only in the intestines, but also in other organs.

The main active ingredient of Vormil - albendazole - has the widest spectrum of action of all antihelminthic drugs presented in the post-Soviet space. Children from 2 years of age can already take the drug Vormil for worms.

Method of administration and dosage

Vormil in tablet form should be taken at the same time as meals. The tablets must be thoroughly chewed or crushed before taking. With a long course of treatment, it is strongly recommended to take the drug at the same time of day. Vormil tablets are used in children over 2 years old and in adult patients.

Recommended doses: in the treatment of clonorchiasis and opisthorchiasis, 400 mg (one tablet) is prescribed twice a day; in the treatment of other intestinal helminthiasis - 400 mg (one tablet) 1 r / day. The duration of therapy depends on the type of causative agent of the disease and is prescribed by the treating specialist.

Usually Vormil is taken from the 1st day (with ascariasis) to 5 days (with giardiasis). An exception is the treatment of systemic helminth infections (for example, echinococcosis). In this case, the drug is taken for a long time - in several courses for 28 days.

The use of Vormil in the elderly requires increased attention. Vormil in oral suspension dosage form is approved for use in children over 1 year old. The suspension is taken with meals. Recommended doses: children from 1 to 2 years old are prescribed 5 ml of suspension, which is equivalent to 200 mg of the drug; children over 2 years old - 10 ml of suspension, which is equivalent to 400 mg of the drug.

The duration of therapy depends on the diagnosis and is determined by the attending physician individually. Vormil in the form of a powder for the preparation of an oral suspension is used in children over 1 year of age. To prepare the suspension, it is necessary to dilute the contents of one sachet in 50-100 ml of drinking water. Recommended doses: for children from 1 to 2 years old - 1 sachet (200 mg of the drug); children over 2 years old - 2 sachets (400 mg of the drug).

Overdose

Symptoms of an overdose with Vormil are:

  • dyspeptic symptoms;
  • tachycardia;
  • visual impairment;
  • drowsiness;
  • hallucinations;
  • fainting;
  • increased levels of liver transaminases (enzymes);
  • an increase in the size of the liver;
  • discoloration of the skin (more often yellowness);
  • respiratory distress;
  • discoloration of urine and feces.

Treatment of an overdose with Vormil is carried out by gastric lavage. If necessary, symptomatic treatment is prescribed.

Can i take during pregnancy and lactation?

For women in position and for nursing mothers, this drug is contraindicated. You should also refuse to take the medication one month before the planned pregnancy. Patients of childbearing age should use reliable contraceptives during albendazole therapy.

Application in pediatrics

Treatment with "Vormil" is allowed to be prescribed to children from 2 years of age.

Does transport management affect

Since dizziness, disorientation in space and confusion are indicated among the adverse reactions to the drug, during treatment with albendazole it is advisable not to drive and not work with mechanisms at all.

What to look for

Due to the fact that the drug is contraindicated in pregnant women, women of fertile age should be treated with Vormil in the first days after the cycle, or if the pregnancy test did not give a positive result.

Therapy of patients with parasitic lesions of the nervous system should be accompanied by the administration of anticonvulsants and steroid hormones of the adrenal glands (for example, cortisone), since in this group of patients albendazole can provoke an increase in intracranial pressure and epileptic seizures due to the death of helminths in the brain.

During therapy with "Vormil" it is possible to increase the level of hepatic transaminases (ALT and AST) in the blood. Therefore, before long-term treatment, it is necessary to take liver tests from the patient and continue to monitor the level of enzymes every 2 weeks. If the indicators are more than twice the norm, the drug will have to be canceled. When the level of transaminases is normalized, therapy with albendazole can be continued, but with constant monitoring of the patient's liver.

Long-term use of "Vormil" can cause in patients with helminths in the liver (for example, in the hepatic form of echinococcosis) bone marrow depression, which leads to a decrease in the level of all types of blood cells (erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, etc.). Because of this, blood counts must be monitored regularly, and if they are significantly reduced, treatment with albendazole must be interrupted.

Due to the fact that albendazole is metabolized in the liver and excreted from the body with bile and urine, with hepatic and / or renal dysfunction, treatment with Vormil should be carried out with constant laboratory monitoring of the patient. It is not necessary to adjust the dose, but with a significant increase in the level of liver enzymes and / or a critical decrease in other blood parameters, albendazole should be canceled and other options for antiparasitic therapy should be considered.

The tolerability of the drug in elderly patients is not well understood. In general, there is no need to adjust the dose for this category of patients. However, elderly people often suffer from liver disease. If there is a history of similar problems, therapy with Vormil should be carried out with extreme caution.

How it interacts with other medications

If dexamethasone (a synthetic steroid hormone), praziquantel (an antiparasitic agent) and cimetidine (an antiulcer agent) are taken simultaneously with this drug, the level of albendazole metabolites in the blood may increase, which will provoke an overdose.

A single dose of Vormil with ritonavir (treatment of HIV and hepatitis C), phenytoin (antiepileptic drug), phenobarbital (anticonvulsant drug) and carbamazepine (antiepileptic drug) can reduce the amount of albendazole metabolites in the blood plasma and reduce the effectiveness of the drug, especially in the treatment of systemic helminthic invasions. You may need to adjust the dose of albendazole upward.

If the medicine is taken with food, the systemic effect of Vormila increases.

In what conditions and for how long is it stored

The drug should be stored indoors, away from children and direct sunlight. The storage temperature should not exceed 25 degrees. The implementation period is 2 years from the date of issue.

Fed for prevention

For ease of use, various forms of this drug have been developed - chewable tablets (400 mg) and suspension (10 ml). For prevention, doctors recommend taking 400 mg (1 chewable tablet) of Vormila for 3 days in a row - this tactic, provided that the course is repeated once every six months, reliably relieves parasites.
